EXPERIENCE

We look for those individuals who wish to work in human service fields. We recruit from all major Universities and Community Colleges. Internships are available and must be set up ahead of time. We conduct a 3-day training for leadership positions and a 6-day training for our full staff.

COUNSELOR-IN-TRAINING

We have a counselor-in-training program that consists of 4 Junior and Senior High School students who are directed and desire to experience human service areas of study.

THE JOB

We rise each day at 7 a.m. and get ourselves and our camper dressed, attend to personal care needs and get to breakfast at 8. After breakfast we have our traditional camp flag raising and then go off to clean dorms. At 10 a.m. we break into program groups and go to different activities on and off camp grounds. Activities are lead by Program Counselors, who are hired to lead programs in addition to their counselor roles. At noon we break for lunch and then the entire camp breaks for rest hour. At 2 p.m. we go back to programs -finishing at 4 for shower time. After undressing, showering and dressing campers (if needed, depending on the week), we get cleaned up and head to dinner. After dinner there is the camp store for goodies and then a full camp program consisting of a huge party with a theme, then off to bed about 9. Curfew for staff is midnight.

This is truly a difficult job, to be responsible for the care of another person’s needs and to care for their needs before your own. It is a selfless task. However, it is incredibly gratifying, and life changing, in ways that you cannot fathom. Camp has yet to teach what is expected, for as you read testimonials, you will find that camp usually teaches what we as individuals need. There is no guarantee; you have to embrace it all with an open mind.

LOCATION

We are located in the White Mountains of Arizona in a small town of Lakeside, Arizona. We are approximately 7.5 miles outside of  Show Low heading toward Pinetop.

(See map and directions page for more info.)
